Vegetarian, Vegan or Raw the BEST reasons to stop eating meat no matter what your preference!

Why you should stop eating meat

Why we should or should not ingest meat as a topic seems to be a bit taboo in our society today. Don't ask me why, but I guess it's for the same reason  having religious diversity is taboo. It looks good to people to see on paper, " Do not judge lest ye be judged", and they open heartedly agree with the Constitutional proclamations about the separation of church and state or the right to choose. Sadly when it's time to put that to practice in real life many of us our judged openly with no remorse. Okay I am done ranting now I'll get to the facts for you! Before I do so I want to take this time to add that I have been a vegetarian for almost two years now, it was not terribly difficult to me to make this transition. I am a classical vegetarian, I allow myself to ingest eggs and cheese but I try to stay away from milk. I will discuss the different types of vegetarians and other non animal eating diets with you later.

The picture above is kind of small, I got it from the PETA web-site. (and give them all due credit) Let me save you the time of saving the picture, zooming in and having to read all of the facts lol I tried to make the image bigger but it appears that I have failed.
The top Green portion reads, "It's mechanized murder". In one year the Average American consumes the following :
  • 130 shellfish
  • 40 fish
  • 26 chickens
  • 1 turkey
  • 1/2 a pig and
  • 1/10 a cow
That adds up to the following # of animals slaughtered in the U.S. :
  • Per minute: 38,627
  • Per hour: 2,317,596
  • Per day: 55,622,293
  • Per year: tens of billions!
The orange portion of the poster states, "It's destroying the earth!".
If the average American skipped one meal of chicken per week the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off of the road. It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of meat! All that grain could be used much more efficiently if it were fed directly to people.

  • 16 pounds of grain can feed up to 10 people a day!
  • Where as the 16 pounds of grain it takes to grow that 1 pound of beef only provides 1/3 of the daily caloric needs of ONE person.
  • You save more water by not eating a pound of beef than you can by not showering for six months
  • more than 70% of the grain we grow in this country is fed to farmed animals
  • farmed animals consume more than 50% of the water consumed in the U.S.
  • animals raised for food produce more than 130 times more poop than does the entire human population of the U.S. ! Roughly 89,000 pounds per second.

The Blue portion reads , "Drinking milk also means drinking pus". One cubic centimeter of commercial cow's milk is allowed to contain up to 750,000 somatic cells (commonly known as puss), before it is kept off of the market. That is over 194,000,000,000 puss cells a year! Eating meat means eating poop. The primary source of salmonella, camplyobacter, E.coli, and other food borne pathogens found in poultry and meat is animal feces!

Every day nearly 2,400 Americans die of some type of cardio vascular disease. -This amounts to an average of one death every 36 seconds. In many of these cases the disease is largely caused by eating a diet that is full of animal derived proteins.

The average cholesterol levels for Americans are as such:  Meat Eater- 210 Vegetarian- 161 Vegan- 133

A small number of birds entering a poultry processing plant might be infected with salmonella, but after processing up to 30-35% can become contaminated.

So how much poop is in your meat? In one study 20% of 200 retail ground-meat samples were contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

Okay, so that was a long pamphlet I know, but very informative right? Since I quit eating meat and I'll just be blunt here, (bowel movements are regular and fluid) I have more energy, my skin is more clear and I sleep more restfully. The benefits just keep coming and coming.

I highly recommend this site, Down to Earth.com , they are very informative! See this article on their "top 10 reasons for going veggie", http://www.downtoearth.org/go-veggie/top-10-reasons also check out the documentaries; Earthlings, Vegucation, Food Inc, Forks over Knives and What Came Before?.

The Atrocities committed for the disgusting and lazy urge to eat fast food every day in this country have to be stopped! I highly encourage you to watch the documentaries above, do research and truly know where your cheeseburgers and chicken fingers come from. Then make an informed decision.  As I mentioned before I do not consume meat of ANY kind. I do consume eggs and cheese. I DO NOT recommend this. Chickens and cows are treated VERY badly. I am very ashamed that I have not yet been able to break myself of eggs and cheese but I work towards that daily. Do what you can! I won't judge you and I will be here if you have any questions. You are not alone in this, please feel free to comment or leave questions below and I will respond as soon as possible! See my other pages on the types of vegetarians, vegetarian recipes (to come) and a great list of products to try. I will also try to update periodically articles about vegan and raw diets. Vegetarian is great, but Vegan is better!!
